Dividends
The portfolio and SPY earn dividends under one rule: a dividend belongs to a position held at the close of the session before the ex-date. From the ex-date to the pay date the amount counts in the value as a dividend receivable; from the pay date it is cash. Nothing is reinvested: the portfolio's cash is spent only by the usual rule on a new slot, and SPY buys no new shares. No tax is withheld, since this is a paper portfolio in US dollars.
